I guess everyone has a list like this, so here is what I’m packing in my VS2010 lunchbox:

Extensions

Productivity Tools

VSCommands 2010 - Install, read about it, then realize why you need this!

Productivity Power Tools -

Power Commands for Visual Studio 2010 -

VS10x Comments Extender -

VS10x Method Block Highlighter -

Environments

Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint Power Tools – A must for SP2010 nerds

WCF REST Service Templates 40(CS) - If you do ANY web and REST services, you will want to get this.

Source Control

MercurialToolbar - Mercurial (hg)

Git Source Control Provider – GitHub etc.

AnkhSVN – Good Old SourceForge makes me have this, but thats ok!

Add-ons

WSPBuilder – Another SharePoint must-have

ReSharper – I cannot even begin to explain how important this is. Buy it. Did you get that? Buy it! And this is from a guy that refuses to buy anything.

TestDriven.NET -

Today I had a wonderful start of the week. My code, that used to compile, now says:

Assembly generation failed --
Referenced assembly does not have a strong name.

Ok! Fine, let’s see, what did I change… nothing. Great.

After some digging around I found out that somehow my COM DLL, in this case SAPbobsCOM2007.DLL (from SAP Business One 2007), was no longer accepted. Although I am still clueless as to WHY, at least I found a solution.

1) Copy the DLL you need to the solution directory.

Create a key pair (this is just a pair of signing keys, used with the DLL but it doesn’t know anything about the DLL):

sn.exe -k Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.snk

The name Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.snk can be anything. I follow the convention of using the name of the DLL, by prefixing “Interop.” and replacing .dll with .snk.

The sn.exe is located in the Microsoft SDK directory (in my case in):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bin\

Next you need to create the interop version of the DLL:

TlbImp.exe SAPbobsCOM2007.dll
 /keyfile:Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.snk
 /out:Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.dll

This creates a new DLL, Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.dll, that’s signed with a strong key.

TlbImp.exe is in the same folder as sn.exe.

Place all three files in your development folder, and then add Interop.SAPbobsCOM2007.dll instead of SAPbobsCOM2007.dll to your project using Add->Reference.

Hit rebuild all and it should all be fine…
